Biskey Pond Ski Trails Tuesday Dec 20

Before a few more fresh inches of snowfall last night, tracks had been set in the afternoon on

  • Wolf Run
  • White Pine Alley
  • Birch Rich

Backcountry skiing is great on Black Spruce; It has been cleared but there is a small open spot that skiers can easily avoid. Grooming will take place after the swamp freezes solid.

Portions of Eagle View have been cleared. Volunteers might get out there on skis or snowshoes soon but for now, that too is backcountry. If you venture out that way consider throwing a pack on your back and take loppers or a saw to help get it in good shape.

With all of the hand trimming that has taken place you will likely encounter some needles and sticks in the tracks. As a volunteer trail system, all skiers using the trails can help out and remove any debris that is in the way.

We are in a winter wonderland and wishing you a great ski season!

Work Continues at Biskey Ski Trails Sunday Dec 18

Clearing the ski trails is slow going and will continue on Sunday. Dress appropriately which includes hood or hat because snow will fall on your head as it drops from the trees. A couple pairs of work gloves is a good idea should you need to change out a wet pair.

If you can help, come with snowshoes, hand saws & loppers and let’s meet at Biskey trailhead at 10 am Sunday morning; 12/18/22.

This is necessary work before the grooming equipment can get through the trails.

Thanks!

FREDENBERG FLYERS FALL 2022 FUNDRAISER – BUD CAPPING

Today we kick off a fundraiser. Many of you are familiar with bud capping and have participated in the activity in the past. The more volunteers the better. Once on site, plan for a minimum of two hour segments. A 4 hour commitment from about 10 people could complete the entire job done. Just think how fast it would be with 20 of us. The club provides the paper and staples. You provide your own full size stapler.

Reminders:

  • 3 to 4 staples go into each paper bud cap
  • A tree gets one cap
  • Give a little tug on each cap you staple to make sure it won’t come off …. If you can pull it off, you need to redo it.
  • Wear sturdy shoes. The terrain is bumpy and lumpy
  • Wear jeans – the vegetation in some spots is picky. (Fleece clothing not recommended, you will come home with many seeds embedded in it)
  • Fanny packs or hunting vests are perfect for holding your supplies
  • Early morning is less ideal because of the wet tall grass but still a fine time to cap
  • We don’t work in the rain because the paper is comprised during stapling

Please sign up to help. Directions, supplies and carpooling options can be coordinated through Joan Sutliff 218-348-3905 cell & text / sutliff

The site is in Canyon.

From the Minno-Ette it is about a 35 minute drive to the site.

Weather looks perfect for Monday, October 3 and Tuesday, October 4. Who can go those afternoons?

If you have never bud capped, it is easy and training is available.

Your participation will be greatly appreciated.

We are done setting tracks for the 2021/2022 season. The grooming equipment has been put into storage. We ask that you continue to follow regular ski season rules and not walk or snowshoe on the trails until the snow is almost gone as there may still be some Spring skiers that are setting their own tracks.

We hope you had a great winter and ski season. If you want to make a donation you can mail a check to:
